CURRENT RESEARCH WORK

Assessment of Sun-Induced Chlorophyll Fluorescence (SIF) and Gross Primary Productivity (GPP) Across Ecosystems in Pakistan

Research Overview

This ongoing research aims to assess the status, spatial variability, and ecosystem-level patterns of Sun-Induced Chlorophyll Fluorescence (SIF) and Gross Primary Productivity (GPP) across diverse ecosystems in Pakistan. The study focuses on understanding vegetation photosynthetic activity, carbon uptake, and ecosystem productivity using multi-source satellite remote sensing data and advanced analytical approaches.

By integrating SIF and GPP datasets with vegetation indices, climate variables, and environmental indicators, this research seeks to investigate spatial and temporal variations in vegetation productivity and their relationships with environmental conditions. The findings are expected to improve understanding of ecosystem functioning, carbon dynamics, and vegetation responses to climate variability across Pakistan.

Key Research Objectives

  • Assess the spatial distribution and temporal variability of SIF and GPP across Pakistan’s diverse ecosystems.
  • Investigate relationships between vegetation photosynthetic activity, carbon uptake, and environmental factors.
  • Explore the potential of satellite-derived SIF and vegetation indices for monitoring ecosystem productivity.
  • Identify regional differences in vegetation productivity and their responses to climatic variability.
  • Support ecosystem monitoring, carbon-cycle research, and evidence-based environmental management.
